The Day’s Scripture
1 John 2:24-29
24 As for you, what you heard from the beginning must remain in you. If what you heard from the beginning remains in you, you will also remain in relationship to the Son and in the Father. 25 This is the promise that he himself gave us: eternal life. 26 I write these things to you about those who are attempting to deceive you. 27 As for you, the anointing that you received from him remains on you, and you don’t need anyone to teach you the truth. But since his anointing teaches you about all things (it’s true and not a lie), remain in relationship to him just as he taught you.
28 And now, little children, remain in relationship to Jesus, so that when he appears we can have confidence and not be ashamed in front of him when he comes. 29 If you know that he is righteous, you also know that every person who practices righteousness is born from him.
Remain, remain, remain, remain, remain, remain! 6 times in our section the word remain is repeated. Remain in the message, the Word you heard from the beginning. If you remain in this Word, you will remain in relationship with Jesus. Remain in the anointing of the Holy Spirit that you received, because the Spirit will continue to teach you the Truth. Remain, remain, remain in relationship with Jesus Christ! And So Remain! It is amazing and awe-invoking to think that the God of the universe calls us into relationship with God’s self, isn’t it?
To touch, to feel–the fabric of our lives (ha ha). Being family with Christ! Walking daily and finding identity in this. To remain goes much deeper than facts and intellectual discourse. Neither is this dynamic just a mystical heightened awareness. Relationship with Jesus! The Son of God. The Word made flesh. Touch, feel. Walk alongside him. Beat on chest. Run from. Hide from. Come back, be held, and remain in. Race, compete, wrestle with! Cuss at? Dance with? Human, grow in relationship with the Savior of the world who loves you. And so Remain!
